Week #4 - Summer 2023 Litter

Weekly Litter Update - July 6, 2023

We hope that all of you had a safe and happy 4th of July weekend!

The puppies have started growing their teeth and are having a blast playing with each other and exploring their surroundings. They're also getting more social with people and love getting pets and snuggles. Capri and Maui lead the pack this week, always curious and eager to discover new things, while the others take a more cautious approach. Their personalities are still developing, so this may change weekly.

Puppy Weight Tracker

During the first two weeks, we weigh the puppies twice a day. After that, we transition to a weekly weigh-in. The chart below only displays the average of the two weights for that day. Because the puppies are so small, weights are taken in ounces.

Puppy Recall

We find it enjoyable to give a theme-based name to each litter of puppies for several reasons:

  1. Naming puppies is fun; the kids enjoy helping us pick names.

  2. It helps us keep track of which puppies are from the same litter.

  3. It's more pleasant to refer to them by name rather than generic labels like "puppy number 3" or "blue collar puppy."

When we need to get our puppies' attention, we use the phrase "puppy, puppy, puppy" instead of calling out their litter names. This creates a positive association with feeding time and is also handy in situations where we want to keep them out of harm's way. As you teach your puppy their new name, we hope having the puppy recall in your back pocket will help keep them safe. Training puppies to respond to a recall by the time they reach six months of age is recommended. Consistency is key in training, so take advantage of every opportunity to associate their name with positive experiences to facilitate quicker learning.

Health Warranty and Purchase Agreement

We at O&M are happy to give a 2-year health warranty to all our puppies. This is one of the ways we ensure our O&M families are worry-free.

We'll send you the official contract to sign about 2-3 days before pick-up, but for now, we're providing you with a blank copy so you can take a look beforehand.

You can view an example Purchase Agreement here.

It would be a great idea to start searching for a veterinarian and set up an appointment for your puppy's first health check-up. Our Purchase Agreement requires that you take your puppy to a licensed vet within five (5) days from the date of pick-up or delivery to ensure your puppy's health guarantee.

We understand that finding a vet and scheduling an appointment can be tricky, so we suggest that you make an appointment early to avoid a situation where you cannot find a vet to examine your puppy within the five day time frame. If you're struggling to locate a vet, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. We understand how important your furry friend's health is and we're always here to lend a helping hand in any way we can.
